Parent-Guardians Outing to Fort Canning Park – 28 May 2011

Parent Guardian Outing May 2011

The Parent Guardian Outing was planned to promote camaraderie, teamwork and bonding between the scholars, the Parent Guardians and their families. It also hoped to relieve the scholars of their homesickness.

A total of 56 scholars, parents and their families attended the session. The group met at the school and departed for Fort Canning Park in 2 buses at about 9am.

Upon arrival, they quickly formed into small groups and were briefed on the game plan and rules.

Each group was given a sheet of paper with photos of landmarks found in the park. Their tasks were to find these landmarks and take a photo of themselves at the landmarks as proof that they found the landmarks. The first teams to complete the tasks were declared winners.

The groups swung into action at the word go. Team work was evident as they planned and helped each other navigate the hilly trail to find the landmarks. The humidity did not dampen their sporting spirit and the first group were able to able to complete their tasks in double quick time.

There were loud cheers at the small prize giving ceremony, not only for the winners but all who participated, for their sportsmanship. The group then had lunch. They had a choice of nasi lemak, fried bee hoon or a vegetarian meal. While having lunch they chatted about their experiences and in the process, get to know and understand each other better.

The group departed Fort Canning for school at around 1pm. The tired but happy smiley faces clearly showed that everyone that participated enjoyed themselves at the outing.

Cedar Family Day Feb 2011

Cedar Family Day 2011: A Fun Filled Day!

Cedar Family Day, held on 26th February, saw it’s largest ever participation with over 120 participants comprising the Principal, VP, Parents, pupils, siblings, scholars and teachers went on a 1 day fun filled HSL Family Trip to Batam.

The day started bright and early where the all the participants gathered together at school. HSL committee members welcomed the students and their siblings with little snacks nicely wrapped up. These were hit especially the push pops and where in high demand.  Three buses set for Harbour Front where we boarded our ferry to Batam.

The day at Batam was a mix of educational and shopping.  We began with a tour around Batam Industrial Park which provided first hand insight into how Singapore and Batam economies were interlinked.   Next was a  trip to a home where Kueh Lapis was literally ”home” made. The aroma was inviting and the kueh lapis taste was just amazing.  Watching it being made we realized how much effort , not counting the eggs, that go into making a cake! After that , we made a stop at the  MAHA VIHARA DUTA MAITREYA LAUGHING BUDDHA temple, South East Asia’s largest Buddhist temple.

Even the bus rides were given a twist with parent volunteers gave interesting quiz questions to test participants and were rewarded with little tidbits being able to answer the questions.

It was an enjoyable day for the participants with many making new friendships along the way. It was the first time that the HSL experimented with Batam after having done many trips to Malaysia. The response was 3 times more than last year.

We would like to especially thank Mrs Ou Yang, Ms Leong May Fong, Mrs Tan-Han Ailing, Mdm Goh Chiw Moy and Dr Bibi Jan for their support and attendance.

Special thanks to Mrs Lee too for the advice and support leading up to the trip.

TOP Test Invigilation

Parents supported the TOP test invigilation yet again this year in Feb 2010. This initiative is much appreciated by the school as it gives teachers a chance to upgrade professionally during this period

2010 Induction Ceremony

It is the tradition of  the Cedar Girls’ School to officially induct the new Sec 1 girls with the Induction Ceremony. It is a significant and symbolic ceremony as this is the day the girls will get their school badge pinned by their form teachers on the stage, in the presence of their parents.

This is also a timely stage for the HSL to be introduced to the new parents.  This is the day the for HSL to showcase our past activities and recruit new parent volunteers. If your daughters are the Sec 1 girls this year, we hope to see you coming forward to join us!!!

We ended 2009 with a loud BANG!!!

31 Dec 2009 was a milestone for the school. After 2 years at the holding school, the Cedarians were finally back to the Cedar Avenue campus. This was the Homecoming Day for the girls.

The HSL parents were excited to see our daughters back and we did something which surprised the school and ourselves.

In a short span of a month, we had three fun rehearsals and voila, we were all ready on that day in the school to welcome the entourage of school staff, students and old girls. We played the drums with our hearts out,  our hearts were beating together with the drum beats.

What a way to end the year 2009!!!

Tour to the Cedar Ave Campus

Today, the HSL exco was  invited to the Cedar Ave campus to tour around the newly renovated building. You bet we were so excited about this tour.

The new campus will have a sparkling new bituman track, more studios (aircon) for the CCAs and group lectures. Oh yes, the highlight is the new auditorium which can seat easily 500 (my estimation, forgot to check with VP Ms Aileen Sim who took us around) We took a picture there, you can check it under the Photos of the Past Events.

A big thank you to the school management for inviting us there!
